How To Manage Micro Goals To Achive The Macro Goals?

read 5 min

Have you been aware of your micro-changes affected your macro goals?

If you choose your macro goals well, you can direct the remaining micro goals in that direction. This fact will help you get one step closer to your macro goals. It will also strengthen the water in the phrase “All rivers fall into the sea”. An action towards an opportunity may be advantageous in the short term. However, it may not contribute much to you in the long run. There is always a way to transform an opportunity for our macro goals in the long run.

Let’s see how we can manage this…

I spent most of 2020 at home. I have experienced enlightenment about self-awareness from time to time. As a result of this I am very happy with the idea of moving my writing to a digital platform. And opening the website without any delay.

At first, it might have remained as an extra burden or perhaps a short-term pleasure.. However, I always feel it is in line with my long-term macro goals. Therefore, I am always motivated to create new content. At first glance, it could be seen as financial loss as well as the loss of time and energy. However, setting up this system has given me an additional source of motivation. It has been a remarkable self-growth action for me to get feedback from people around me. Of course, also improving my future content based on feedback and recommendations.

Visual Storytelling Journey…

A lot of the feedback I got from my environment was about directing me to a more visual storytelling part. I really enjoy it when I write the story of my pictures. Eventually, I am more motivated to continue in that direction.

If we look at the big picture again, the theme of the content I created started to change. I made a research on different business topics. I tried to keep them at a certain quality level as unique content and then share them. This effort gave me the opportunity to practice how I should present the message to the audience in a feasible way. I saw its usefulness and realized that it was expanding my vision in a short time.

Worklife…

I would like to share my project at work. And also, the side projects that I have been involved in…

Since April 2019, I have been continuing my professional career in Barcelona. Here, I work at a research institute, and actually, our team develops technology on a topic related to my master’s thesis, namely monitoring some physiological parameters of the body. My responsibility is to spin-off this technology for wellbeing applications. In fact, it’s a very popular topic today. You may remember the brain-implant company Neuralink presented by Elon Musk in the past months. The system we are developing also has an infrastructure that can be used for similar purposes…

Of course, even though our project doesn’t have that much investment (yet 😥), we offer a different concept from the existing products… 🙂

Anyway, let’s go back to our topic… I am also part of the 3-person team in the COVID-19 project since March 2020. The project has grown steadily and we have received funding from the European Union. We are developing the project together with research institutes and companies from different countries in Europe. It is a very remarkable experience for me to contribute benefits to public health and all of society.

Since we develop a portable compact product for this project (link), it will also contribute to my career in the long term. Because, as a technical concept, they have common points with the product in the main project I work on… It has been a great source of motivation for me to take care of realizing the idea of developing a wearable device, which has been my dream since my university years. At first time, the micro goals were heterogeneous and they didn’t seem very connected to each other. However, in time I started to explore the connection points with being aware of the goals, actions, and evaluations… This gain has become a source of motivation to create new micro-goals to support my macro goals.

At this point, a piece of advice to myself and you is that although it may not seem very important or very relevant to our main goals at first glance.. Do not stop getting used to the practice of grasping the goals and discovering how they will contribute to our main goals….

Even before lockdowns, I already started to do exercise at home. As a project I ran at work was also about sports and I wanted to get the first feedback from myself… So, I installed the same system at home and tested it for months, and tried to get user experience and make empathy easily. Currently, home-exercise has become a part of my job in addition to my lifestyle.

P.S. when I did my sport on the terrace, I had a paper and pen to keep my notes to catch the inspirations… 😅

3P: Pain, Patience and Pleasure…

While I was working as freelancer in 2018, sometimes I was helping a startup company founded by my fav university professor with producing content about the coding and algorithm kit for kids participating in the customer visits and I was doing it with pleasure without any financial expectation … Then what happened?

I moved to another country and started giving coding lessons to the students of the private school near where I work… With those kits…

Well, then what happened…? The number of my students gradually increased. Even one of my parents was a teacher at a different private school. With her recommendation, that school offered me to give coding courses at their summer school. Another student needed mathematics and science private courses and even though I was super busy with many things, I supported him too… Because we had a connection. All of them were my friends and students, not a customer, and they saw me as a mentor and sometimes as a playmate.

Playing a music instrument with fruits and hand clapping… 🙂

We were doing the classes in the cafe of the institute on weekends. I was trying to make them feel the atmosphere of the science world a little bit, and it was very nice to do a brainstorm while passing through the laboratories, to learn what they felt …

Final Words…

Honestly, I didn’t need any of these.. I could go to their home or I could teach in a cafe, but what’s important. user experience … This job was just a weekend side business for me, but it was a great opportunity for taking a step to reach my macro goals.

The parents and the students… The customer and the user.. I had to satisfy both sides. It is in our hands to improve this thinking infrastructure by practicing.

I am sure that the triangle including you, the customer, and the user exists in the sector you are working in, as long as you discover it and realize how it will provide added value …

In conclusion, I would say that identify the micro goals and try to connect them to your macro goals. Be braver and more aware. In this way, you can be sure that your steps will make you go further and give you more opportunities…
